TCL SunPower continues the legacy of giving back to communities through its "SunPower Gives" program. SunPower solar modules were donated to Australian partner, https://excelpower.com.au for a charitable installation in East Timor.

The project had three parts, helping communities power crucial infrastructure with renewable energy. 15 panels were installed on the maternity clinic in Gala, and 10 panels on a bore supplying drinking water powered by solar to the entire village - home to 78 families. A second solar powered bore was installed in the village of Hopilat.

The installations are life-changing for these communities.

Delivering A Reliable Power Source

The Teresa Orsini Maternity Clinic is the only maternity clinic in the area, for years it has battled though power outages that could last for weeks, damaging in the process donated medical equipment and putting mothers and newborns at risk. These conditions result in uncertainty over their medical procedures, without lighting or electrical equipment, 30% of childbirth ended in tragedy.

Working alongside the Australian charity MEA Power Up,SunPower donated 15 panels that were installed by volunteers at the clinic,giving the center a stable and renewable source of electricity.

The Impact of Solar

The solar infrastructure has now given the healthcare professionals reliable access to electrical medical equipment, transformed it into the region’s central hub for vaccine storage given its dependable refrigeration, and light source to operate at all hours regardless of city outages. Since the installation, the clinic has recorded 177 births with only a single fatality, a reassuring outcome for the families in East Timor who used to face childbirth without any of these guarantees.

At SunPower we see the broader impact solar technology can have on these communities. The improved infrastructure has now turned the maternity clinic into a sought-after training site for doctors and nurses, supporting the future of local healthcare professionals and increasing the towns’ medical response capabilities. In East Timor our panels are not only keeping incubators running and vaccines cold, but they are also hope for the families who not long ago sought healthcare from a center whose power source was not assured.

Our solar infrastructure is made to last, ensuring our efforts in East Timor have long lasting effects. In addition to community training, the panel’s performance can be tracked from Australia, giving the community the confidence that the system will keep preforming reliably despite its isolated environment.
