Huercasa boosts its sustainability with SunPower: solar energy now covers 44% of its consumption

Amid rising energy costs and an increasingly urgent climate debate, Spain’s agri-food sector is stepping up. Huercasa, a European leader in fifth-range vegetable production, has installed a state-of-the-art photovoltaic system that now covers 44%of the energy consumption at its logistics center.

Developed in partnership with Eufón and powered by SunPower Performance P7 technology, the project delivers an annual reduction of 294,000kWh, representing an estimated €37,000in yearly savings.

Clean energy in uncertain times

The timing couldn’t be more relevant. Volatile electricity prices and mounting environmental expectations have made energy strategy a core business issue.

For Huercasa, moving towards self-consumption was a natural step in line with its corporate commitment to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles — known internally as Compromiso Huercasa. The goal wasn’t only to cut costs, but to turn sustainability into measurable action.

“While the investment is significant, the economic savings and the reduction in our carbon footprint make the move to solar energy absolutely worthwhile,” the Huercasa team explains.

Why SunPower: when trust makes the difference

The collaboration between Huercasa and Eufón goes back many years. The installer has long been a trusted partner in the company’s electrical and industrial projects, which made their recommendation of SunPower particularly meaningful.

For Eufón, choosing SunPower was a deliberate decision. Adolfo Bartolomé, from Eufón, knows the brand first-hand from his previous experience working with SunPower itself. For years, the company’s technology was viewed as a premium choice — top-tier, but often difficult to justify in industrial projects due to its price point.

That changed with the arrival of the SunPower Performance P7 series, which combines cutting-edge quality with greater market accessibility.

“This project marks a milestone — our first major industrial installation with SunPower,” says Bartolomé. “It proves that high performance and reliability are now within reach for industrial clients too.”

What sets SunPower apart

Huercasa’s choice was built on three solid pillars:

●    A 30-year warranty, one of the longest and most reliable in the industry.

●    Advanced safety certifications against hail and fire, a critical factor as insurers become more demanding with industrial rooftop systems.

●    A more competitive price, thanks to the new Performance P7 range, which makes SunPower’s once-exclusive technology accessible to a broader market.

As Eufón puts it:

“We know Huercasa looks for long-term, sustainable solutions — not temporary fixes. SunPower fits perfectly with that mindset.”

Data speaks louder than words

The project’s impact is clear:

●    44% of total energy consumption now covered by solar.

●    Electricity usage reduced from 841,583 kWh to 547,622 kWh.

●    €37,000 in annual savings.

●    Real-world production performing 5% above projected estimates.

Beyond the numbers, the installation strengthens Huercasa’s corporate narrative. Sustainability is no longer just a promise — it’s built into the company’s operational reality.

A model for the agri-food industry

The ripple effect goes far beyond Huercasa. In an industry where energy costs can determine competitiveness, this project sets a replicable example for other producers.

“Huercasa talks about sustainability through action,” the company highlights. “That authenticity reinforces our credibility with clients, suppliers, and employees alike.”

Following the success of this project, Eufón is already replicating similar installations across the agri-food sector, including for a major meat producer. The message is clear: the energy transition is no longer optional — it’s a strategic advantage.

Looking ahead

For Huercasa, this installation isn’t the beginning, but a continuation of a clear path toward sustainable innovation. With another solar plant already in operation and along-term energy efficiency strategy, the company is committed to reducing both costs and carbon footprint.

In a moment when stakeholders increasingly demand coherence between words and actions, Huercasa, Eufón, and SunPower stand as proof that profitability and responsibility can go hand in hand.

At a glance:

●    44% of energy consumption covered by solar

●    294,000 kWh less per year

●    €37,000 in annual savings

●    5% higher-than-expected production

●    Reinforced corporate responsibility and stronger competitiveness for the agri-food sector
